John, have you reached out to them as a potential partner or associate organization?

But perhaps it's a matter of taste!

It's an interesting question, how positive vs. skeptical to be. Many people assume that the positive will be somehow taken care of by the normal course of project PR and media visibility, but that the skeptical needs to be supported in some specia...

The government is actually moving very fast but it takes a lot of time to reach any level of agreement on spending that much money. And then develop the guidelines and applications, and then review them, and then ...

Woo hoo!! Fantastic. I didn't realize that ARRA projects had not yet started breaking ground -- how fortuitous that we're going to be on deck to document the very first one!

We've corresponded with them, and we should look more closely at their model for ideas, as well.

Hopefully! We're following some ARRA money that goes through the NYC Economic Development Corporation; it's possible that some money is going to the 5 boroughs separately. But it's early yet ... a relatively small amount of the stimulus money has ...

Great analysis of the issues. And absolutely, there needs to be such an organization. There's a feeling sometimes that in a 2.0 world, it's enough to somehow have the distribution channel (like YouTube or Think MTV) available, or a generic match-u...

I think the Recovery Act is an interesting compromise between what you might think of as a "classical stimulus" ... just give everybody a check individually, and they spend it tomorrow ... and an attempt to channel most of the money into some form...

It could be a concern. I read some early RFPs for the ARRA funding for education and they basically said that this was a one-time bump in funding and the grantees should consider that in figuring out what to spend it on. It's stimulus funding, aft...

Narrative vs. Numerical Data

We've been working on a workshop on narrative media as a critical component of Gov2.0 reporting & transparency ... a counterpoint to numerical data. It's aligned with the "citizen creator" concept ... narrative structured social media for project PR, created by project participants and impacted members of the community.

Ethnography and other "white space" discovery methods are becoming critical to social research, NPD, and other fields, why not the push towards transparency that's part of G… Continue

We've started pilot WPA 2.0 projects ...

... we're covering local projects in Maryland (the first ARRA project announced, a highway project in Montgomery County); and in New York (a local economic development project). We're also talking about a fascinating possible project involving rural telemedicine.

If anybody has suggestions, please let us know. We're particularly looking for innovative projects in underserved areas, or areas hard-hit by the economic crisis. And of course, now that we're lining up pilot projects, we're also hopin… Continue

Internet Archive ...

... is a remarkable project "founded to build an Internet library, with the purpose of offering permanent access for researchers, historians, and scholars to historical collections that exist in digital format." Their mantra is "universal access to human knowledge". We're talking to them about helping us shape the program, and perhaps being the digital repository for the WPA 2.0 media.
